Golden Gate Park has so many great places to enjoy and so many activities going on, but sometimes you just want to lie in the grass and look up at the sky. For this, I recommend Speedway Meadows, which is smack dab in the middle of the park.
Speedway Meadows is a huge open field surrounded on all sides by towering trees. The meadow makes a great setting for bbqs and picup volleyball or soccer...see more »

Jerry's Liquor on 19th and Irving is the best place in the neighborhood to go for wine. Jerry knows his stuff and has been working hard to build his selection and is always eager to hear feedback about the wines that he sells there.
You'll also find all kinds of great beers that, along with the selection at Lucca down the street, make for a pretty nice experience in alcohol selection.

For my first couple of months living in China, I thought I would break down due to a lack of good bread, but after a while I came to tolerate and eventually love the Chinese bakeries in Shanghai and their unique breadstuffs. Sheng Kee bakery, between 20th and 21st on Irving, bakes up all of my Chinese favorites and a few that I haven't heard of, plus a pretty decent selection of western style breads...see more »
